Range Tips & Tricks

Make your range experience as safe and fun as possible with these basic tips and tricks.

  1. Know the range rules. Read the range rules now to know what's expected. View the rules here.
  2. Speed up your check-in process by completing the range waiver online here.
  3. Wear range appropriate clothing. We recommend a button-up shirt or shirt with a high collar, long pants, closed-toe no-slip shoes (tennis shoes, boots, or flats), and a ball cap. Warning! Hot brass casings can fall in low cut or open back tops.
  4. Don't shoot the same boring silhouette or bulls-eye targets. Pick a fun target from time to time like a zombie, battleship, or knock'em down target.
  5. We want your experience at Shoot Smart to be a great one. So, don't be afraid to ask for assistance if you need it

Rental Fleet How To

With an extensive rental fleet available, you have more options to choose from when searching for the perfect firearm, or more ways to have a "blast" on the range with family and friends. Unlimited firearm rentals - $14.99. Try as many out as you like for one flat fee!

First Timers

We recommend first-timers to the range start with a .22 caliber handgun or rifle. These caliber firearms use the smallest available round, are quieter, and feature a MUCH lower recoil or kick than other caliber firearms. It's also the most affordable caliber, meaning more shooting for less! Work on getting comfortable around firearms with a .22 before moving to a larger caliber.

Ready to move up a step?

Once you have a few visits with a .22 under your belt, try upgrading to a full-sized 9MM like the Smith & Wesson M&P or the Glock 17. 9MM is currently the most popular caliber for handguns, meaning a variety to choose from when renting or buying. Starting with a full-sized 9MM will help you adjust to the higher recoil of this larger caliber.

Looking for something fun?

Why not give some of our more exotic rentals a try? Our rental fleets always have unique options available like lever-action rifles, shotguns, the Desert Eagle, and handguns with red-dot optics.

Full Autos

Ready to take your range experience to the next level? Then give our Full Auto firearms a try. Experience real full-auto fire under the supervision of our experienced Range Guides. Full Auto rentals - $50.

Recommended Gear

If this is your first time shooting, you only need a few essentials to get you started.

If you don't yet own a firearm:

  1. Having your own shooting glasses means never having to borrowing someone's scratched pair.
  2. Get started with a standard pair of earmuffs, or upgrade your shooting experience with an electronic pair.

After you make your firearm purchase:

  1. Protect your new investment with a pistol case or sleeve.
  2. Keep your new firearm in top condition with a cleaning kit. Don't yet know how to take apart and clean your firearm? Consider scheduling a cleaning lesson with one of our certified Gunsmiths https://shootsmart.com/gunsmith-services.
  3. The more you shoot, the more time you spend loading magazines. Shorten your downtime between mags and save your hands the strain with a magazine loader.
  4. You have all your range equipment, how do you store it all? Keep your gear organized and within reach with a range bag.

Stop by any location for assistance selecting the best equipment for your needs and budget. Or visit our we-store below to shop from the comfort of your own home.
